The Last One

I can't believe we're finally here, WEEK 14 that is! It's amazing and scary how time has flown. I still remember when I first started this blog, well that was 13 weeks ago!
It has been fun, and sometimes annoying to have to constantly write here like I'm an insane person talking to myself haha only cos I'm not a blog person. I'm more of a diary person. But anyway I digress. lol

Tomorrow we hand everything in, in a DVD.
And I cannot wait.!

I printed everything last monday, because I wanted to be on the safe side rather than panic and lose control. Which I hate. So I strived to get everything done earlier. For peace of mind more than anything.

Here's what the final product looks like now. I really can't do anything now. It's outta my hands..
And tomorrow, literally!

So there it is. I will burn the DVD tomorrow cos Julie, (freki JUkatt- she's JU in jukatt) has the final render of the DVD. We should be aight.

So yes, everything's done.. FINALLY!!

I wanna write a quick reflection before I sign off from this blog. and I'm gonna be really honest, cos there's no point lying, especially if I think I'm talking to myself here. haha

Firstly I wanna comment on HOW MUCH I have learnt in this class. DAMN, soo much. From AfterEffects down to the littlest details in typography, i think I know a little bit more about them. AfterEffects has been fun and frustrating, but good to know it nonetheless. With typography, damn, listening to Jodie talk about everything she knows about it makes me feel like crap cos it shows how much I don't know. But at the same time it makes me feel good too that I'm actually learning something new everyday. You don't wanna be going to class and not learning anything right?
Especially with that poster that I showed her, I learnt heaps from that sit down more than I dont know, whatever. lol
And yeah apparently, we aren't pirates! Lol Lesson learnt, don't use low res brown paper as background for text. haha I only used it cos I felt like I needed to put something there, but anyways yeah it's better to just use NORMAL PAPER! haha

What else umm oh yeah coffee stains. I thought it showed the guy's nervous character? But nahh probably just looked tacky.

Moving on to the reflection, um yeah I'm glad this subject is over, definitely. Cos it's been so FCKING stressful, cos there was so much to do! Whinging?? YES I am. but it's alright cos it's over now! haha
And hopefully I wouldn't have to do all this again, except for the ones I enjoyed because I choose to do it aagain.
Oh God please, I hope I pass this subject. As much as I learnt a lot in this semester, I hope everything I've done is enough for this subject. I definitely pushed myself here, taken feedback in and followed them like a good sheep. haha

Anyways in case Damo and Jodie actually read everything here word by word, just wanna say thanks for everything this semester. wweeeeee hooooooo DONE

Title Sequence Title Sequence Title Sequence

It's 9.01 AM 12th October, last day of Week 13 and I couldn't be happier thinking about that!
Except for the weather outside which is the worst I've seen in a long time. It wasn't just gloomy or raining, it was like there was a storm out there. There probably is one lol
Umbrellas flipping and shit.

Anyways I digress. I'm here to show my title sequence which I think is done yay.

Actually I might put up the first version and write the comments Jodie made about it, then I will put up the newer version. =)

So I think she said straightaway that the font was too big. Cos it's a typewriter font, it doesn't want to be used as a big thing. So I changed that.
Also we had (well she had an idea and i did it LOL) to use the diagonal thing going on with my poster and actually tie that in with the brand. SO, have a look how I used that in the next version.

Tada!

FUlly sick

Last night in class, waited in a very looong line to talk to the lecturers to get feedback for the poster and title sequence.

Man oh man, did I get hammered!!! LOL

There's too many to type but some of which that I remember are :
"Oh that fucking blob again" - talking about the gunshot on the logo Jane
Font too big, which I only noticed too when it was printed!
The slanting angle on the fold for the packaging didn't suit the poster, had to fix that too.
The credit names were getting lost in the wilderness and they were too big too!

haha that's what I can recall for now.
After that talk, stress came crawling back to my innards hhaha. Sooo what did I do?
22% battery left on the train and an hour and a half train ride ahead of me, I started working on the poster! That made time fly faster on the train, and ultimately made myself feel better about everything. I just want that feeling that everything's going to be okay. I hate that anxiety feeling, cos it eats me up.

So anyway, here's the updated version. Apparently last night, we were figuring out how to make a FAIL into a PASS. Hopefully this is a pass =P

And I shall be working on the title sequence now.

Week 13! Update

It's Week 13! Time has flown and we all know it. Everyone just wants to finish and get it done with.
Amen to that!!

So anyways, I think my last entry was about the poster, thinking of what I was gonna do with it.
Well I think I figured it out! Yay!
Las week I did the poster, and I think it needs more work. But because I'm using it as the packaging as well, I think now it's a bit further along than where it was last week.

I'm gonna have to design both sides because they're both going to be shown! Duuhhh

That's what I have so far..

I've actually experimented with the folding of the poster to contain the DVD and it's looking good so far. That poster up there is the updated version after I've played around with the DVD casing, considering the positioning and all. I'm excited about it! :)

ALso with the title sequence, I think it's coming along. I'm done with most of it. Just have to add a tint, and maybe see Damian for some refinement. I didn't get to talk to the lecturers last week cos everyone was seeing them and the list kept getting longer. haha Definitely seeing them today!

IT's the last chance to fix everything!!

I cannnoooootttt wait to hand in everything and be freeeee!

Dreadful weeks before the END

It's week 11 and it's time to freak out!!!!
This is not an awesome thing to put in the blog, but because I missed the class yesterday, I feel really behind. Waaaaaaa!

But anyways, I just wanted to show my progress on the remaining things due soon, i.e. Poster, DVD, packaging and title sequence.

I started looking into the poster today and realised that I don't have enough decent shots to use as a poster. And I was also starting to wonder whether we could still use the old images from our previous filming, which might not have anything to do with the storyline we have now. I have plenty of good images from the previous shooting which were all indoor photography. Since we changed our film to its shorter version, the whole film is basically outside now. So can I still use my indoor shots??
I don't know!!

Here are some of the shots I have which I might be using for the poster. I will have to treat them at photoshop beforehand.

That's all folks!

Presentation!

Hello everyone!

It's 12th September, Week 9! We've got 5 things due today!
And because I realised we have to present later today, I shall organise all of them so it's easy to navigate through later :)

1) Get Up and Go

2) Static Production Company Logo

3) Animated Production Company Logo

4) Animated Style Guide

5) Title Sequence Storyboard

Tadaa!
Big relief that's all done!

Week 9!!!

It's Week 9! Time is flying and there ain't nothing we can do about it!! So tomorrow we have a bunch of stuffs due. Just to make myself feel better by organising them. I will list them here.

1) Get Up and Go
2) Static Production Company Logo
3) Animated Production Company Logo
4) Animated Style Guide
5) Title Sequence Soundtrack
6) Title Sequence Storyboard
7) BLOG!

Okay I so I have most of those ticked! Good good! I swear it's hard to get any work done when you're in front of the TV watching X factor cringing for the contestants performing in front of Usher! LOL

Anyways back to work while the ads are on!
Today I went out to take some footage for the title sequence. I was thinking of doing a running scene in the beginning, with suspenseful music. This is a preview of what's about to happen later in the movie.
So i'll be doing a title sequence storyboard for that later.

But for now I'll upload the Animated Style Guide :)

Jane Logo

We've been playing around with the movie brand, starting with the logo. Initially I was leaning towards the hand written expression of 'Jane' or 'Dear Jane'. I started exploring other fonts which looked similar to hand writing, since I couldn't get the weight right for the ones I've done.

Then I came across other fonts, I don't know. Here have a look :)

Here's the one I settled for, for now.

Brand inspiration

Jane is a suspense film. It's about this guy who's obsessing over his ex-lover, and it's a stalking story gone wrong.

Here are some of my inspirations.

Title Sequences

Lately I can't stop thinking about Opening title sequences. I don't know why, maybe cos we're going to have to make one soon and I'm shittin myself thinking what I'm doing!! I'm just constantly looking out for it, thinking of what and how I'm gonnna do mine.

Here's a site which featured 30 inspirational title sequences.
http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008/12/19/30-unforgettable-movie-title-sequences/

http://www.yvelledesigneye.com/2012/07/15/25-awe-inspiring-film-opening-title-sequences/

Our story is about this delusional, obsessive man who still fantasises and goes insane over his ex girlfriend who is clearly over him. How far will he go to repossess her? What could be the consequence of his actions?

So for our story, I have some ideas about my title sequence.
There's so much that we could do, like animating a title sequence, have heavy typography etc but because the title sequence has to tie in with the movie, I thought filming the title sequence would best represent that.

I'm really inspired by the opening sequence on the movie SE7EN, how there's so much intricate detail in the cinematography, how it sets the mood for what we're about to watch, and how it's almost like a preview for what's in it but really, we don't even know what it's for. I think I've already talked about this before. =P

But my point is that I like how that could be used in our film. I could have macro shooting on things both the characters could be doing? That could be nice, wouldn't it? Lighting tea lights, writing furiously, pouring coffee. I don't know stuffs like that. But maybe sharper quicker cuts?

Another idea I have is in the woods, where the climax of the movie takes place. I could have an establishing shooting there, giving an eerie feeling of the woods and it would eventuate to almost a running scene and really intense cutting, then goes to black- straight into the beginning of the movie afterwards.

I'm really thrilled about doing the filming for this. In my head it would be just before the sunset, like the mood in the images above. I like the fog in these images, the mysterious atmosphere; the foreboding feeling. I just need to find a place where I could film this and drag a friend to tag along with me to film it!!

By the way here's the Animated Production Company Logo I've come up with. I have two finished products. I'll post them both up.

Voila!

Freki Jukatt Alive!

It's amazing how we're progressing! Right now, we have established our film story, we have our own animated production logos, we started filming the other day and we're moving forward.
Jodie showed us some packaging ideas the other day for our DVD case. It's very inspirational and awesome.

These are just some of them!
I'll put up the animated production company logo we've been working on later.

Filming!

Yesterday we started filming for our film.. It didn't exactly go how we would have liked it. Lol. We spent too much time mucking around, we played games, went to the shopping centre instead of preparing our shots.
But we had fun. Besides the actors weren't gonna come until later, and I think we just got too relaxed.
It takes forever to set up a scene and get all different angles and all that. We spent the whole day at the location, and we only managed to do half of what we're meant to.
Here are some snapshots of yesterday's filming.

We haven't done our outdoor scenes yet! :(

"Get Up and Go" Done!

Hey there :)

Just an update ya'll. So yesterday we handed in our Get Up and Go, or I'm not sure, maybe not really a proper hand in. But we are to stop working on it from now on.
Anyways, I just thought I'd post it up here for everyone to see.
The feedback I got from it, from what I remember, was that it was cute. haha
The font suited the video well; I could've added feather on the masking on the words and also it would have been nice to make the little words kind of wobble a little bit, to go with my wobbly filming. lol

Next thing we're working on is the Production Company logo. You know the ones like 21st Century Fox, Universal Studios, just to name a few. Our PC name is "Freki Jukatt" combining all the names of the group members; Freda, Kimbo / Akira, Julie and Kattleya. :) It just so happens that it sounds racist. Lol

Have a good day!

'Get Up and Go' going!

Hola!
I just felt like updating ya'll, whoever's reading this, of my 'Get Up and Go' video progress.
I finished! Weeeee

I got my all my shots done the other day and finished editing everything yesterday. I'm so glad that's out of the way cos there's like a TONNE more to do.
It's not the best, but hey, it's our first actual After Effects editing task. I'm just glad I got through it.

I don't think I should post it up here just yet. Definitely next week, when it's due ;)

Storyboard!

It's week 3!  Oh no! Good way to look at it is that there's only approximately 11 weeks til we finish =P
Anyways, I was working on the storyboard for the task 'Get Up and Go' and it made me realise that I suck at making storyboards. :( I've always been fond of drawing, but drawing people is my weakness! I just can't get the angles right and they look like zombies most of the time.
So here's my attempt on that Get Up and Go storyboard.

Also during that time when I realised that I suck at storyboarding, I figured I should look at how the professionals do it, see how they do it, and ultimately make myself feel worse for not being able to do that =P

I found a website on film making, storyboarding and other movie production stuffs. This guy did storyboarding for movies The Hulk, X-files, Terminator, X-men 1-3. Well that's what I gather anyway.

http://www.adrienvanviersen.com/storyboards/hulk.html

And another one, this one's pretty cool. There's heaps in here! Coloured illustrations, cartoons etc.

Brief History of Title Design!

Hello again! I wanna share a video we watched on the first class we had for this subject. It's called Brief History of Title Design. Our lecturer Damian Blayney commented on how technology, way of thinking and simply evolution of film making has changed the way title designs have been made. Pretty interesting to watch.
I specifically like the one of the movie Se7en starring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman. The title design was so clever, articulate and relevant.

Enjoy!

Welcome!

First post ever! Hello everyone! Firstly welcome to Kimbo's blog! So it's advanced media integration time. It's Week 2 and honestly, I'm like 98% scared, 2% excited; or other way around? 98% excited, 2% scared? I've always been a huge fan of movies (we have around 800 DVD's now!) and film making is just interesting. I wanna be a part of doing movies one day, HOLLYWOOD baby! :)

Anyways, as I understand it, Advanced Media Integration is about incorporating a lot of film making, photography and other media stuffs and creating something extraordinary. Something that captivates the audience and something inspirational too.
I will be posting everything and anything I find incredible and worth talking about, any crossroads we may encounter and so we could all be witnesses and critiques to each other's progress and process. Jodie spoke about avoiding designing inside a vacuum which makes total sense. No matter how hard it may be to hear the comments about the little babies we design, we have to learn to take it! Toughen up gurl! :)

Our first assignment is called "Get Up and Go". It could be anything we want, a video shoot, stop motion, animation or anything else we can think of, to portray a certain kind of routine or activities we do when we 'get up and go'. It doesn't have to be in the morning, but the concept should be there. For example, we get up, take a shower, brush our teeth, get distracted, forget keys, whatever. So that's what we gotta do. It's just a practice, probably just to see where we're at with filming, editing and typography.

I'm thinking of doing my little sister, Shane, who's 9 years old. So it'll be showing the morning routine and attitude of a kid who wakes up to go to school. I think it's quite different compared to how an adult would wake up. An adult who wakes up to a world full of responsibilities, to work, to do chores and other stuffs :( I think the kids definitely see the world differently than we do. I'm excited to start working on it. I'm almost finished with the storyboard and I will post that up when it's done :)

Cheers!
